I welcome you all in the beginning of this new session. Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma Govt. College, Karnal was established in 1976. At present the strength of the college is 4408. The college has all the three faculties, viz. Arts, Commerce and Science besides the Job Oriented courses like BCA, BAMC, BTM, BSc. Hons. (IT) and Master Degree Programme in Commerce, English, Economics, History, Psychology, Mathematics and PG Diploma in Guidance Counselling & Psychotherapy. Army and Air wing of National Cadets Corps are working smoothly in the college. Our cadets are regularly selected for Republic Day Parade and also have won awards on other occasions. The Counselling and Guidance Cell and Personality Development Cell are functioning in the college so that the students can be groomed to face various competitions and interviews. I feel proud to say that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma Govt. College, Karnal, was declared the best college of the state by the Dept. of Education and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra in 1997-98 and again in 2003-04. Also, our college was adjudged the best by the University in respect of Science Activities for the session 2002-03. We strongly feel that co-curricular activities are an indispensable part of education process. Our students take part in almost all the games and sports scheduled as per the University Calendar. There is a gymnasium also in the college. The college has a fully computerized library. We subscribe to a number of journals, magazines and newspapers. There are separate reading halls for the male and female students and teachers. Two units of National Service Scheme are working at present in the college which undertake such useful activities as tree plantation, blood donation, each one –teach one and polio vaccination programmes. There is a well established Cell for Women Studies and Development. The girl students are encouraged and inspired through various means like extension lectures, seminars, educational trips, cultural exchanges, and contests in co-curricular activities. In all Subject, Societies are working actively to bring out the complete potential of the students. Each Subject Society under the guidance of the Teacher In charge arranges various (at least three) activities during the whole span of the session in order to develop self-confidence and moral values in the students. With the help of government grant we take students to educational excursions. We have 14 smart classrooms, one Fully functional Conference Hall and other means like projectors to make teaching more interesting and fructuous for you. One Incubator Center is working smoothly in the college campus for placement assistance to the students. The college magazine Ravi Tej is published every year. Under the Earn- While- You- Learn Scheme the meritorious and poor students are given the benefits of all the government schemes. Besides this, we have established Sahyog Organization to help the needy and meritorious students. Students are fortunate that they have such dedicated and highly qualified teachers. Since this is a co-education institute, there are certain expectations from the students. Students must maintain discipline and decorum in the college and attend their classes regularly and punctually. Always respect your teachers. Try to keep the campus neat and clean. Avoid any activity which damages the college property and infrastructure. I exhort students to participate in cultural activities, sports, and also join NCC and NSS. A very important thing students need to remember is that their personality regardless of what it is now can develop and evolve. The significance of this understanding is that students can still do something about their personality today (i.e. by using soft and life skills). It means that if students think their personality needs to be improved, then they can make this happen. Above all, students should never forget that their primary goal in this institution is to gain knowledge and pass your examination with good marks. I extend my best wishes to all the students for their bright future.
